Deaths
2:40 p.m.

California Department of Forestry reports that one firefighter has been killed fighting the Cedar fire and three others have been injured, all from the Northern California community of Novato. The death and injuries occurred about 2:15 p.m. near Wynola, west of Julian.
1:15 p.m.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Bomb Arson Unit reports another fire-related death. A body was recovered in a home at 9848 Vista Viejas Rd. in Alpine this morning. Investigators are unable to determine whether the victim is male or female, but they believe it could be the body of a missing 41 year old woman who resided at that address. This brings the number of fire-related deaths to 13.

A lady explained today on the news, that the Santa Ana winds and dry humidity that occurs during the condition, actually 'pre-heats' the brush so that when the fire approaches, it is alreaady predisposed to ignite.  That was a good explanation. When we have the normal marine layer, it takes a lot more for the brush to start to  burn.

As of this morning, the winds died, and shifted. Just East of Ramona, in Julian, Pine Hills, Descanso and Cuyamuca were evacuated yesterday afternoon and more houses were burned. They are still fighting the fire there this morning, trying to save the main town. So far the San Diego fire has burned 233,000 acres and destroyed 1,200 homes. Just north of us in Escondido 40,000 acres has burned and is only 20% controlled.
