Mount Woodson
| April 11, 2004 - My first attempt at Mount Woodson from
the Lake Poway trail. I hit the trail just before 7am. The first leg is
less than a mile counter clockwise on Lake Poway trail, then it branches
off to Mount Woodson. It's pretty much up hill all the way. I was sweating
and huffing and puffing. Parts of the trail are pretty crude. I didn't see
any evidence of fire damage. About half way up, I encountered a couple
resting, so they beat me to the trail. I passed them and made it to the
top without seeing anyone else. I was pretty sure there wasn't anyone in
front of me because I kept running into spider webs spanning the trail.
When I got to the top, I didn't see anything that said I was there other
than all the antennas. This would be a spectacular view when the Santa
Anas are blowing, I'll have to try it. As I started back down,
they were just getting to the top. A little while later I met three trail
bikers working their way to the top. In total there were 4 couples, three
bikers and one guy going up. It took me 2 hours and 34 minutes with the
pedometer indicating 7.68 miles. I got to the top in 1 hour and 23 minutes
with the pedometer indicating 3.79 miles. The return would have been 1
hour and 11 minutes and a distance of 3.89 miles. 'A foot & a field in San
Diego County' lists the Mount Woodson Trail as 4.5 miles, but I think
that's at the point where it joins the Lake Poway trail. That would add
another 2 miles or 6.5. I'm not sure what the difference is caused by. The
pedometer is accurate around Lake Poway. |
